It is just a game and while I might get invested in my character and the world and play the diplomacy game, my real life feelings are never in jeopardy. I don't think there's anything wrong with a world that lasts this long. It shows endurance for those of us who've been here from the beginning. I started out in Wilderness Justice as James Howlett (aka Wolverine from Marvel Comics). My first identity on Power's Edge was Nevest (I believe back in the same world as Acanthopis' eeeee). Then in various universes I was Jon Snow (from George R.R. Martin's series Song of Ice and Fire), Snake Eyes (of G.I. Joe fame), -xXx- (from the Vin Diesel movie), and I feel like I'm forgetting at least one more. My daughter also wasn't born yet when WJ was started. She's 18 months old now. In real life I'm a computer programmer. I've been playing the Magic card game for about 13 years now. I grew up with comics and 80's cartoons anf still love both. I got into HeroClix and the Versus card game for a while but don't play either much anymore. Halo 3 on XBox 360 is taking up a lot of my time lately. As far as rules go for a new universe, I'd love to see it be allowed to have unlimited outside communication. It's really great to be able to set up a Yahoo mail group for your alliance and share maps and turn news on there. It really provides the ability to have a highly organized and effective force. If we're going to have a turn limit then let's make it 104 turns for an even year long game. I'm willing to do the limited diplomacy thing, but it does benefit people who play with friends/family locally as I have done in the past. It's really hard not to talk about the game when you're hanging out at school or work together. It's really been fun guys. I hope no hard feelings were had. Its a country near Baltic see. Lithuania used to be a part of Soviet Union, but now we are independent country and a member of European Union. In real life I'm a computer programmer. I am thinking to make a better map viewer for PE :). My husband (yes, I am a woman) found this game several years ago. Then some friends joined it. I was a watcher for a while, but later I joined it too. Now friends are not playing anymore (at least in this universe). So, I am new in this game and this is my first leader. I have another leader in different universe but it is not finished so I will not name it. I would prefer diplomacy the same at it was in this universe. Also I think it would be good to make changes in maps like all regions of allies could be made green. As majority, I don't like disasters. Actually I think they help to grow, as after disaster a leader can find new independents or small nations. If the game is without disasters then leader will be forced to attack his neighbors as this is the only way to get bigger or meet new leaders. This would make this game more interesting. I am 68 years old and am British. Have played PBM since it really started in the 60s and also done wargaming etc.I spend hours looking for good stragety games which are now few and far between. Some years ago I was in 9 games at once but now I do only 3 as most I find are rubbish. This is one of the best games I have found and I prefer the rules as they are. I am in a couple of other ongoing universes and Im sure I recognise to style of some of you in their posts! I have been Payinzeass and Gettingbigger in finished Powers Edge games. May we meet again elsewhere. ====================================================================== PE-WJ-Diplo [Acanthopis]: Wow! Somehow, without even thinking about it, I kind of just imagined all of the players here as men somewhere between 25 and 45. I hadn't really thought about it, but I had also never realized my assumptions. It's great to learn that some women are playing (my ally! who knew?) and that I underestimated the age range by a fair amount. Next time I will be sure to imagine characters with more of an open mind. -- Acanthopis ====================================================================== PE-WJ-Diplo [MacBook Pro]: Identity Date:Fri, 12 Oct 2007 01:41:05 +0000 To reply, log in at http://www.websofpower.com/?Page=Login or use your newspaper form. Way back at the start of this universe I was Archaeopteryx, but I got hemmed in (had only 2 neighbors, and couldn't even chain my regions together) and then made a bad decision to attack someone as big as I was. Who had friends, and went and got help from them. I was crushed. I should have stayed small, fortified all my regions, and then bought some external connections or something. The more neighbors you have, the more opportunities you have to get into the action. Restarting was the best thing for me though, as you've all seen since! It was interesting to see that MacBook, formerly Sorceress, was so many other leaders I recognized, and that Cartwright, formerly my enemy Howlett, was also so many of my rivals. Even Acanthopis I recognize. Hermis was a complete surprise to me as well! I wish I knew who Arizona and Kalvis were. I know OckerBoy was from Tasmania or somewhere else in Oz, but not so much about the others. It'd be nice if we had a chatroom for non-game socializing. As for my own former selves - well, I was Muscular Pacifists, and a few others, but it was the Pacifists I was most proud of. Although I made the mistake in both that universe and this one of trying NOT to win for a year or so, and it seems many others got bored to tears by the long stretches of (apparent) peace. But as those of us still here all know, there was plenty going on behind the scenes! In real life, I'm a father of 2 with a job that is intermittently very busy and sometimes a bit slow. I like this game because it doesn't take that much time, so I can keep playing even when I'm really busy. And yet it has enough depth and strategy to it to keep me interested. But I don't think I'll play in another maximum-diplomacy world because sometimes I just don't have enough time to answer all the diplomacy coming my way. I'm in one of the less intense universes already, though, so you'll hear more from me there (though you won't necessarily know it's me). Good luck to all. I hope we see Kalvis around more! I did enjoy playing with him (her?), although I *did* hold out some irrational hope that he'd join us in fighting the SA at the end. Serves me right for being loony! I can't wait to see what identities we all come up with next! -- BP
