We therefore start the 5-turn countdown clock: if the SA alliance continues to meet the victory conditions on each newspaper up to and including the Turn 211 news, this Universe will be sent into a New Era! The Alliance Victory rules are detailed in the Leaders' Guide, but the practical details are these: (a) the SA control more than 1/3 of the 293 Regions controlled by the Major nations (as reported in the newspaper); (b) the SA control more than 3/2 as many regions as both the next-largest alliance (none is declared) and the largest non-SA nation. As it is my remaining 6 regions are split into 3 and I can't even rally my forces. It seems the SA were jealous of the fact that everyone else was getting Pet Porcupines, and wanted some of their own. But you know, we have been neighbors a long time, and they didn't need to come barging in at 3 am! Besides, if they'd just politely rung the bell at 6:30 (we are early risers), we'd have been happy to offer them a nice cup of tea! Hemlock tea! The SA claim to have been bored, but in fact they have had over 1/3 of the regions in the universe for *60* TURNS! However, they didn't have the guts to try to win while Aachaan and Gregorius stood with the Porcupines in the X alliance. So instead they sat around and bored my allies to death. Where's the fun in that? But that was not enough; for many turns the only thing that stood between the SA and victory was the X alliance. But when the X was gone, did the SA march straight to victory? Heck no, they sat around for another 9 turns! Where's the sport in that? Now, you would think that last turn, with 127 out of the 97 regions they needed to start the 5-turn clock, they might have just quietly and peacefully let us know that they were finally ready to brawl, and waited to see what we did. But no, they had to launch a massive, pre-emptive assault! Arizona -- we had a 5-turn nonaggression treaty dating back to October 2005! Hermis, ours dated back to December 2005! (I now see that you did say it would end when an announcement was made about the end of the world, but I hardly think that 11 hours notice followed by a large invasion force is within the spirit of the agreement.) Where's the honor in that? But all of this is now water under the bridge, or rather spilt milk. Or maybe snakeskins that have already been shed. The SA don't get any style points from us, but if the SA want to fight, then we will fight! No matter that we are massively outnumbered, were sneak-attacked, and have only 1/4 of the mobility of the enemy! We would rather go down in a flurry of flying quills, than roll over and die!! Here is the way this looks from our side: I attacked Mr. Monkey for reasons discussed in my last missive. Then, you wrote a note saying that our 5-turn agreement would be terminated immediately. You had publicly declared an immediate start (at least, that's the way it looks to me from your message) to a war with my nation. Well, just as you invoked a mutual defense pact that I knew nothing about, I think that it's fair to say that if you declare war on me then you should expect to fight my alliance-mates. So, now you're fighting my alliance mates. How, exactly, did you imagine this war would work when you announced it? With just you attacking? Anyway, I am not sure if we could have started the clock back you and Gregorus and Aachaan were around. We might have had 1/3 of the regions, but so did you, silly! The clock can't start that way. And think how nasty it would have been for us to start the clock right after Gregorus left! That would have been taking advantage of bad luck for you! This way, we've given you a bunch of time to re-form an alliance that could reasonably stand against us, which you've been doing by giving away land and making friends for the last twenty turns. See what sweeties we are!!! lol Anyway, given how you organized a spectacular defeat of TS back in the old days when it looked like they were clearly going to be the winners, you can't blame us for being gun-shy! Stopping them nearly destroyed us. So, lets fight. You have lots of resources, and you WERE the one who declared this war, so let's see how it plays out. Fight us, stick us with your quills, devour our still-beating hearts in battle-lust... But don't be mad! Also, realize that you can always count on snakey stupidity to help out. You have started a campaign against us (Acantchopis is a part of SA, if you forgot), and we react accordingly. No use to mention any prehistoric treaties, especially if they were signed with one nation and now you are quite different thing. I have a treaty with Bald Porcupines and never promised anything to the Red P (I have kind of allergy on this color :). BTW the same fact of your identity mimicry is very alarming symptom for us. In fact it change the policy and treaty - you yourself did confirm it talking about your alliance cancelation. So there is no matter for complaints, it may be said what you nullified our treaty yourself, if anybody cares. But I doubt this. To speak the truth the main reason of our attack is what like you we all bored with this universe and want it to restart to make more intersting for other participants. It was a final straw, which trigger SA. So do not blame us too much. We'll make it quick and for our common benefit.
