Basically my account goes bye bye. I have already sent a message to bob informing him what is wrong and I have not heard back from him. We hope Bob can fix the problem before his people revolt! That would completely change the course of this Universe, which would be a damn shame. As it is, my poor ally can't move and just keeps losing regions left and right, which has to be REALLY annoying. ====================================================================== PE-WJ-Diplo [Acanthopis]: Inability to Move Date:Mon, 18 Sep 2006 14:49:35 +0000 To reply, log in at http://www.powersedge.net/?Page=Login or use your newspaper form. I don't know if this is difficult or time-consuming, and it is not my intention to load up on jobs for Bob, but this might be an acceptable work-around until Bob gets the time to find the problem and fix it, especially if it is only Gregorius who isn't getting his newspaper now (I have not missed one for a few weeks). I know that Bob had hoped to get the website set up so that you could log on and get your most recent newspapers there, which would also work, but it looks like that is another big job that is taking longer than he had hoped, which is why I'm looking for interim solutions. Do others in the Development Zone have access to individual newspapers? Maybe they could send them on to Gregorius if Bob is too busy? Just a thought. I agree that it is no fun for anybody involved to play a game where one person is at a disadvantage. If the above cannot be done for whatever reason, then I propose that this universe be suspended until the problem is fixed. We have suspended things in the past due to technical glitches, even though the glitches were solved in time to keep them from being a problem for most players, so I don't see this as being anything different. We have been playing this game for almost two years now, and I certainly don't want the end result to be that the winner is whoever was lucky enough to get their newspapers! Given that I was assured by my tech people that my lack of newspapers was not because they were deleting some messages, I am fairly comfortable assuming in Gregorius' case that the problem is with the mailer, not with Gregorius. In that case, a suspension seems like the correct route to take. -- Acanthopis ====================================================================== PE-WJ-Diplo [BoldlyGo]: newspaper problem Date:Mon, 18 Sep 2006 21:47:03 +0000 To reply, log in at http://www.powersedge.net/?Page=Login or use your newspaper form. About 2 months ago my newspaper turn input fields formats changed and I could not order anything. I tried everything but nothing worked. I was using my yahoo mail account. In desperation I joined excite.com and set up their mail account and forwarded the turns to that account. The turns were received ok by excite in the correct format and since that time I have used excite for this game. What the problem was I never found out but the bug is still there in my yahoo account for this game. ====================================================================== PE-WJ-Diplo [OckerBoy]: webmail services Date:Mon, 18 Sep 2006 22:03:32 +0000 To reply, log in at http://www.powersedge.net/?Page=Login or use your newspaper form. I forwarded the update to my other non-yahoo email and the update worked perfectly. Thanks for your help Bob but I guess the problem was Yahoo and not the game. To those using Yahoo Email, if your experiencing problems with your Newspapers try forwarding your newspaper to a different Email address preferably a non-Yahoo email address. ====================================================================== PE-WJ-Announce [Moderator]: All Problems Solved here? Date: Wed, 20 Sep 2006 02:38:34 +0000 Announcement from the Moderator to All Leaders: Okay, I think we've got all the newspaper problems sorted out. Acanthopis' missing newspapers seem to have been occuring on Wednesday mornings when our ISP's email servers were overloading. We've modified the way the mail gets sent out to cut the servers a bit of slack (at the expense of extending the time it takes to get the updates done). And Gregorius wasn't missing his newspapers at all, just having trouble getting them to behave. I will note that we have many players with Yahoo accounts who don't have much trouble. And yes, we've just about got the highly-regarded "resend latest newspaper" feature reassembled, although we need to squeeze in another debugging session in the Development Zone before letting everyone have at it. We're also working on a couple of new features -- a "trade" engine that boosts regions' production based on their relationship to nearby regions, and a couple of new ideas that might reduce the much-disliked "Region Crises" to a minor annoyance. There's always something that wants to be improved, and development time remains scarce at the moment, but please bear with us, and in the meantime - game on! However, if anyone is STILL having trouble, please let us know! -- Power's Edge, http://www.powersedge.net/ ====================================================================== PE-WJ-Diplo [New Professor]: Email Problems Date:Wed, 20 Sep 2006 13:24:20 +0000 To reply, log in at http://www.powersedge.net/?Page=Login or use your newspaper form. My ISP email account and Yahoo for a backup which I admittedly haven't paid much attention to since my primary email has worked rather well lately. At least it was possible to setup/add a second email for each game some time ago. I hope that's still the case. Redundancy is good.
