(This is intended to protect the privacy of other players.) ====================================================================== I am sad to announce that SA has failed in its bid to hold off a TS victory permanently. The three of us formed to keep them from victory. We never had their strength, and were dogged by folks who inexplicably wanted to do their bidding (why help the winning cause if you're not part of it, I always wondered), but in the end I'd say that TS just beat us. I finally had to acknowledge that the jig was up a couple of turns back when I took a foolish gamble and lost in a truly spectacular way. So, Kudos to TS for a fine fight. I will not resign, as I believe that is a coward's way, and the victor should at least be allowed to fight for the spoils of their victory, but for me it is only a question of when the end will come. When all of my regions are connected to outsiders, I expect to resign, as that way none of my lands will be lost. If old friends wish to attack me now, I will not hold you to any peace terms, and you have my blessing. However, I will defend against you as forcefully as I will defend against TS, as that is only fair. I would like to suggest that we start the clock ticking on eventual TS victory. They currently have 269 units of production and 102 regions, which dwarfs any of the other declared alliances. -- Acanthopis ====================================================================== PE-WJ-Diplo [James Howlett]: Reality Check Date:Wed, 01 Feb 2006 17:46:15 +0000 To reply, log in at http://www.powersedge.net/?Page=Login or use your newspaper form. (This is intended to protect the privacy of other players.) ====================================================================== I will admit that things do look bad for Acanthopis and the SA alliance, but I told him from the beginning that I thought he had chosen his allies poorly, especially in Kalvis. There was a lot of give and take in our battle, but as Acanthopis said, there was a big swing in the fight a couple of turns ago. Some smaller nations have joined our side but I don't think the reasoning should be that hard to understand -- we're nice people and we fight with honor and respect. Hermis joining the SA side should prolong the battle for a good long while anyway. The thing that I think everyone should realize is that the game is in no jeopardy of ending anytime soon. Right now TS has 102 regions (the only stat that matters by the way). There are 295 regions controlled by the major leaders right now (nations with at least 1 external connection). At the moment, we do control more than one third of those regions but we still can't declare a victory condition. The relevant rules can be found in section B here: http://www.powersedge.net/?Page=guide#basics.neweras The problem is the "(b)" requirement in section 4. We would need to have 3/2 as many regions as all of the nations that are not in any alliance. Those nations include: Aachaan (29), Bald Porcupines (24), Gardener (9), Gregorius XVI (18), Hermis (26), Imutnab (7), Joshua Cyn (3), Parnasse (10), Yahya (2), Zabor (12), apeloverage (1), rstlne30 (14). That accounts for a grand total of 155 regions, well more than what TS has. So as you can see, there is no threat of TS reaching the victory condition anytime soon. Thank you, James ====================================================================== PE-WJ-Diplo [Hermis]: Note Date:Wed, 01 Feb 2006 18:15:33 +0000 To reply, log in at http://www.powersedge.net/?Page=Login or use your newspaper form. Say: "Alliance must also control at least 3/2 as many Regions as (a) the next-largest Alliance and (b) every Nation not in any Alliance." "every Nation" is not the same as "all Nations together". It means that you should compare TS region number(102) with Aachan(29). As english is not my native language I may be wrong. It would be good to hear moderator's opinion, if we could start the clock ticking on the end of world and TS as the winner. ====================================================================== PE-WJ-Announce [Moderator]: New Era clock ticking Date: Wed, 01 Feb 2006 18:34:23 +0000 Announcement from the Moderator to All Leaders: TS does meet the New Era conditions for Alliance Victory and we've started the 5 turn clock to see if they can hold onto it... [ Hermis was correct: the rule is they have to be at least 3/2 as big as the largest single nation not in an alliance... I've revised the Leader's Guide to be more clear (thought I did that earlier, hmm...). ] Sorry to be terse, much going on in Real Life here... -- Power's Edge, http://www.powersedge.net/ P.S. If you are no longer playing, please use the Resign button in your newspaper to resign. Details at next turn. As member of an Alliance supporting the clock ticking side I can say I am very glad to see it happen. While I hold no animosity towards Acacanthopis dcision, and see it in the interests of a good game, some oof his erstwhile allies should have been a bit more careful about who they picked on for no good reason, that is what shaped the game latterly. For want of a nail... ====================================================================== PE-WJ-Diplo [James Howlett]: TS Standing Down Date:Fri, 03 Feb 2006 15:06:44 +0000 To reply, log in at http://www.powersedge.net/?Page=Login or use your newspaper form. (This is intended to protect the privacy of other players.) ====================================================================== After talking it over with the other TS alliance members, we don't want to try to go for the victory condition at this point in time. The easiest way to stop the clock is for another alliance to form that is at least two thirds our size. We are at 102 regions so the new alliance would need to be at least 68 regions. There are many combinations of 3 or 4 leaders out there that could easily band together and accomplish this. If that doesn't happen in the next turn or two then we will give 4 or 5 regions away to get below the size necessary to meet the victory condition. We just wanted to let the world know of our plans so that unneccessary hostility can be avoided and no one has to break any peace treaties to try to stop us from winning. In the future, we would prefer it if the winning alliance can choose when to start the clock instead of the moderator doing it for us.
