I was fascinated by the gossip and the knowledge that most of the players, apart from me, seemed to know what everyone was doing! Im not one for of shooting of dippys, dont have that much time to do it, but I did keep in touch with my two main neighbours, Hobbit and Fluffy. Very soon after the start I found myself in contact all around and then became paranoid as dropout after dropout was never near me. Agggh. I decided to break out and I thought I had an ally but after I moved against Fluffy I found myself on my own. I then had to convince Fluffy that he wasnt the target and I needed to get to Gordon. Fluffy was quite annoyed but Gordon helped by placing some funny dippies that could be taken several ways. I did intend to keep at Gordon but then my empire was chopped into two and most of my invasion force was set adrift. Pahhh. The middle and end of the game saw me trying to disguise that fact that I was wide open with most of my remaining troops in the wrong place. Gordon then chopped up my adrift troops and followed this up as both he and his ally Fishy managed to keep connecting to me whenever they did a bit of exploration and I still never managed to find a dropout. Rubbish! In the end it was a close run thing as I had to keep withdrawing and my actual unit production was being restricted as my regions were to few to allow full production. Glad it didnt go to 100 turns! 2008 will be a good year what with the Olympics and another tournament. See you all there I hope. That is truly hilarious to learn that Superthing really was after me. My hat is off to him for selling me that story! Well done! Boy, don't I look like an idiot now... :-) For me, I expected this game to be a free-for-all starting in about November, and was surprised that agreements generally stuck. Perhaps that's the effect of knowing that another tourny is coming up, I don't know. But I am glad to hear that I was not the only leader one the brink of an unprovoked war who turned back at the last second! Well, in Super's case, I guess a little after the last second... Kudos to Gordon and Fish for eating up that traitor! :-) ====================================================================== PE-07-Diplo [Gordon]: A History from Albumia Date:Thu, 07 Feb 2008 19:54:46 +0000 To reply, log in at http://www.websofpower.com/?Page=Login or use your newspaper form. The fixed end point help keep the game interesting. In the only other game I've played the game reached a point at the end where not much was happening. The big powers had no interest in forming an alliance to end the game. The smaller powers could not keep up with region crises as the world had grown very large. A brief history of the world as told by Gordon of Albumia: -Time line- (turn) event (30-34) Scorpion-Albumia conflict over Viggen and Everybody's (35-50 approx) Scorpion-Albumia cold war (38) D'ni cheeting scandal (58) D'ni leaves world (53-65) Fullerton war (62) Albumia/Small Fish leaked "alliance" message (64-end) Superthing War (late 60s) War with Fluffy Duckie is avoided The time line lists most of the major events of the world from Albumia's perspective. The first half of the game was dominated by the diplomatic intrigue created by D'ni and it's consequences. The second have of the game had two parts: the Fullerton War and the Superthing War. I'll end this message now since I should get some work done. There's more I'd like to say about D'ni, NOIOTT, role play and more. Was anyone at war more than me?
