Tzu and I were both around the middle of the pack. We were allies in the previous world and decided to work together again. Neither of us had any treaties with Winston and I gave Winston one turn notice that I was going to attack him. This is a war game, you make allies, make enemies, and get enjoyment out seeing your nation grow and prosper. Anyone can try to twist Leila's treaty breaking however they like. We had a peace agreement. There were no escape clauses in it of any kind. There was nothing that said she could break it if I attacked an ally or that she could break it if she really, really needed to. As I said above, this is a war game and I'm not going to apologize for playing it. I will always maintain my honor in this game because that is the right thing to do. Breaking treaties is wrong. Period. There is no way to make it right. The Watchers II take the attitude that everyone should get along or else ... or else he'll attack you and make you get along with the people he likes. He pretends to be high and mighty but he condones Leila's breaking of a binding peace agreement. That just shows his true character. I did indeed offer a peace agreement to The Watchers II about two turns ago. I said that we could have immediate peace on our current borders so that I could focus on Leila. Leila is an oath-breaker and deserves to be destroyed. I was not sure what kind of response I would get but I figured I would appeal to his sense of honor and decency and hope for the best. As you can see, I was sadly disappointed. Think of me what you will but you can never say I broke an agreement and you can never say I caused myself any dishonor. Any of you who support the oath-breaker Leila Skywalker bring great dishonor upon yourselves. If she wanted to attack me, that is fine, but she should have waited until after our treaty expired. That is all, -xXx- ====================================================================== PE-RA-Diplo [Little Gamers]: Asterix-12 Date:Wed, 26 Nov 2003 21:59:08 +0000 To reply, log in at http://www.powersedge.net/?Page=Login or use your newspaper form. He writes: " This is a war game, you make allies, make enemies, and get enjoyment out seeing your nation grow and prosper." Actually, this Universe isn't a game at all, and even if it was, my people would view it as a Peace Game, not a war game. The Leader's Guide says "There are no predetermined goals or purposes" and in fact we can pursue any goals that we wish, and that is what we choose to pursue. There is more than one Way (in the Taoist sense, even) to "get enjoyment out seeing your nation grow and prosper." Our Way is not xXx's Way. But sometimes diplomacy and deterrence fail and the aggressors must be stopped with force and not appeasement. I am thankful for ALL of you for interacting with power'sedge no matter what side of any issue you are on. The reason for my bothering you all once again (and I think this will be the last time on the Leila issue) is that Watchers and Winston have painted a very glorified version of what Leila has done. She was "just helping a friend" and "simply ending a treaty 3 turns early". But in fact this is not true. Leila was not a friend of Winston. She supported my invasion and even agreed in principle to loan me troops for the effort although that wasn't necessary. Indeed, until -xXx- joined the effort it seemed clear which side she was on. When -xXx- started to help me, she started to sound less enthusiastic about helping. She tried to get me to distrust -xXx-. Finally, she told me she had no problem with my invasion, but couldn't stand still while -xXx- took all those regions from NBE. She hoped we could still be friends. The very next turn she invaded -xXx- with almost all her armies on four different fronts. You can draw your own conclusions, but to me it is pretty clear that she had planned this engagement for quite some time, and knew she was acting against her word. It may be true that Winston pleaded with her for help. But my guess is that she knew she had a wide open shot at -xXx-. Four borders some of which were close to his home worlds (must be as they met early on). She was looking for an excuse to do the invasion and when -xXx- helped me out against NBE, she saw an opening. She made a peace treaty, quietly built up troops on that border and at her convenience picked a time that would allow her the best attack. This was not Leila coming to the aid of a friend. This was Leila looking for an excuse to dishonorably invade -xXx-. We used to be a neighbours once upon a time. My relation to him was respectful, even friendly. I've consulted with him on differenet diplomacy matters and almost every dicision I made, took into account his interests. Yes, I canceled several agressive 'projects' because he was against it. Then, some time later, xXx have decided I'm too bad, to be his ally. He spoke, that MC had threated to some nations here and there, so it's deserved to be destroyed. No matter that actually I have inflicted no harm to this nations. He was two times bigger then me this equitable xXx. Moreover, he took with him several allies to make me feeble and my destruction inevitable. Initially they have tried to 'observe the decencies', i.e. gave me 5 turn before attack notice, but their bloodthirsty greed have prevail over sense of equity, and even these severe conditions they failed to accomplish... What should I think about xXx after that? Could I speak he is honorable? From formal point of view - No, as he didn't fulfil his promise to attack me only after turn [xx], and with relation to morality - also NO!!! He betrayed our friendly relations and esily sacrificed my nation in the sake of own fast growth. I think this story about xXx is very indicative. As it could happen again with any new ally of him. Our nations just a means to growth for this man. And the guys that helped him will know it one day as I did. That is all about bad side of this man, sorry what take your time. And happy thanksgiving to all turkeyeaters :) Asterix ====================================================================== PE-RA-Diplo [Little Gamers]: Please Check The Rules Again Date:Fri, 28 Nov 2003 15:37:33 +0000 To reply, log in at http://www.powersedge.net/?Page=Login or use your newspaper form. Leaders from Web of Intrigue are allowed to join Rival Alliances under their old names, by notifying the Moderator. (2) Negotiation Phase: No Alliances may be publicly declared prior to Turn 25. Alliances may be declared at any time from the Turn 25 news onwards. (3) Permanent Alliances: Once a Nation becomes a member of an Alliance, that membership must be made public, and it is permanent: nations may not leave an alliance unless the alliance has only one member. (4) Maximum Size: Alliances may only add new members if the enlarged alliance does not contain more than 1/6 of the nations in the universe. (5) Single-Alliance Victory: To end the world, a single alliance must meet the standard victory conditions. The game may still be restarted by a New Era vote. (6) Two Announcements Per Turn: All Leaders are limited to two (2) global announcements per turn. (7) Unlimited Private Messages: Unlimited secret messages are allowed. Sharing of email addresses and communication by direct email is also allowed (unlike in Quest for Supremacy). (8) Moderator Privilege: These rules will be enforced as interpreted by the Moderator, and may be modified by the Moderator at any time if needed. Given that much of the drama occurring currently is due to carry-over from Web of Intrigue, can't we all agree to disagree and go from here? Referring to 2, 3 and 4 - No one has yet made a public announcement of allying with any other, though there is plenty of behind the scenes reinforcement occuring. Please remember that that alliance is PERMANENT! If anyone out there is serius about being your ally, and you are serious about being their's why not ANNOUNCE it to everyone and secure their trust and confidence as you extend yours! Also, in regards to 4 - Given the current size of RA (14 leaders), it states that currently, an alliance can have a maximum of two (2) members! We have at least 2 major "collectives" of people that seem to have about 4 members each. While this isn't against the rules per se, why is everyone so wordy and vituperative in announcements and still shy to declaring alliances? If you are not a part of these cooperatives please be wary when promises are made, a wolf can wear sheep's clothing. -Little Gamers of LAN Party
