====================================================================== PE-RA-Diplo [Winston Churchill]: The New British Empire Date:Wed, 06 Aug 2003 00:32:07 +0000 I have received some questions about my recent speech in Parliament. I realized that there may be other leaders who are unfamiliar with the events leading to the formation of our new nation. Without a knowledge of the past, some leaders will misinterpret my words and see in them meanings I did not intend. You may not have heard of the failed experiment in nuclear physics that took place at the University of Chicago last year. The uncontrolled reaction which spread across the entire American midwest, that spewed dangerous radioactive particles across the entire Northern Hemisphere, that killed most of the population of Europe, America, and millions elsewhere. The reaction which continues to this day, poisoning the air and threatening all of us. The story of the rapid migration organized by the British government in which millions of Britons were sent to safety in South Africa, India, and other outposts of the British Empire. The heroism of the late King George, who stayed behind in London working to the last to maintain order and morale, will be remembered forever in the history of the world. And the danger was not over with our arrival in India. The world is a chaotic place now, as vast waves of refugees move around the globe seeking safety and a place to live. And we are not the only nation to have survived the disaster. Others have and not all are our friends. So yes, I did say "Victory at all costs and in spite of all terrors; victory, however long and hard the road may be, for without victory there is no survival." It is the survival of the citizens of the New British Empire with which I have been charged; and in this dangerous world, survival will come only with victory. Victory over the laws of physics, that we can someday shut down the pile that threatens us all. Victory over starvation, over radiation poisoning, over attacks by other nations that seek to harm our people. For this I will fight and lead my nation. Not for glory, but for survival now and the chance for our children to grow and live in peace. I also said "It is to wage war by sea, land, and air, war with all our minds and with all the strength that God gives us; to wage war against a monstrous tyranny never surpassed in the dark and lamentable catalogue of human crimes." Know that there are such nations out there, ones who plot to take what is ours and to enslave our people. It is not yet time to talk of these nations, as we are busy stitching together the cities and outposts of the New British Empire. But in the fullness of time their actions shall identify them to the world. And when they show their true colors, we shall stand against them and will look for allies among like-minded nations. Winston Churchill
