====================================================================== PE-CH-Announce [Moderator]: Congrats NBH; Restart Time! Date:Wed, 17 Dec 2003 23:30:10 +0000 Announcement from the Moderator to All Leaders: Congratulations to the Nations Breathing Helium! They have met the conditions to force a New Era of this Universe. (See http://www.powersedge.net/?Page=guide for the rules details.) As I see it, the timing of this could not be better, since we all have the holiday break ahead. I'll be giving some thought to the shape of the New Era - suggestions are welcome! The basic rules of the Code of Honor Universe (limited, update-synchronized diplomacy in particular) will be kept, but it might be fun to make a few changes. At a minimum, everyone will get to create a new Leader with a new character in a new nation! There is a new "region crisis" system that I'm now debugging, which eliminates the need for the justly-hated Rescalings. The new idea is that all regions are vulnerable to having crises from time to time (randomly as far as the Universe is concerned). If the Universe gets overpopulated, the worst crises can force regions to be abandoned or merged (not so different from how regions are merged in a Rescaling, but one at a time instead of all at once). Occasional crises afflicting individual regions are not so unrealistic (floods, hurricanes, famines etc. in our world, for instance) and they can then keep the size of the universe under control without requiring cosmic cataclysms like Rescalings. Larger nations will have more crises as a matter of probability, and managing them well will be one of the challenges that the top nations will have to face. I was thinking of trying the system out in a Development Zone universe, but I think it's simple enough that it would be do-able in the main Power's Edge universes, and I'd love to try it out. Perhaps the best thing is to restart Code of Honor as two new Universes, one with Crises and one without either Crises or Rescalings... -- Power's Edge, http://www.powersedge.net/ ====================================================================== PE-CH-Diplo [CH-Independents]: End-of-Game Discussions Date:Thu, 18 Dec 2003 16:14:13 +0000 To reply, log in at http://www.powersedge.net/?Page=Login or use your newspaper form. To make use of this feature, go to: http://www.powersedge.net Then click on "Send Diplomatic Messages", and then enter your Leader's name and password. If you've lost your password, you can find it by doing a "view source" on your Nation's latest Newspaper, and searching for the string "password". Your actual password should be soon after that string. Once you've logged in, you can send both Leader-to-Leader messages and Global Announcements. Happy Holidays, Everyone! While I have been mostly silent for the 64 turns in which I participated, the end of this universe prompts me out of my shell. I wanted to spend this, my first game, in relative anonimity to get a feel for the game play, keeping a rigid neutrality through it all. When my nation was insidiously attacked and nearly overrun, I felt let down. Yet again, this was a game where "might means right". I was pleasantly surprised to discover that this was not so, as other, larger nations, threw their weight behind me and helped me restore my nation. Here, then, I have found a home. The old universe is dead, long live the new one!... Good thing too, 'cause I was running out of MacNames! Second, congratulations to the Nations Breathing Helium [NBH] alliance for winning the game. Third, like Childe Roland, I to wish that there were more of a challenge to NBH. It's not like the alliance surprised everyone. When the secret messages were leaked, I made up my mind to go after Honest Abe regardless. The game had become stale and predictable. Like Clann, I was only in the game for a short time, so other older nations were apparently just happy with the game fading away. But, unlike Clann, I was a tad vocal towards the end. And I still managed to enjoy the game all the way through my 59 turns. Fourth, I warmly thank JACK SQUAT for joining the BoP alliance. Fifth, don't look for Don Quixote de la Mancha as my character in any new game. What would I name my regions? Sixth, thanks go out to The Bob for a truly unique and interesting game. Seventh, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. ====================================================================== PE-CH-Diplo [CH-Independents]: Final Maps and Fun Stats Date:Sun, 04 Jan 2004 01:45:37 +0000 To reply, log in at http://www.powersedge.net/?Page=Login or use your newspaper form. I'm really glad to see that Power's Edge has found a following. My New Year's Resolution is to get the next version out at last, and then work to create a true player community. Here are some final numbers from Code of Honor: * The Universe lasted for over 22 months! The first update was February 2, 2002 and the 165th was December 17, 2003. CH was the longest-running Universe to date! * A grand total of 172 Leaders and Nations stepped into the Code of Honor Universe. This makes CH the most successful Power's Edge Universe to date! * As fate has it, the Updater keeps one map for each nation (the final map that nation received). They're stored by the ID number of the Nation rather than the name of the leader, so it's not easy to find anyone in particular (which is why it's my policy not to re-send them). But, by request and in the interest of those Historians who want to take a look, I've placed ALL of the final maps into the online Historical Archives. If any of the NBH members would like to see their final maps enshrined as the graphic on our web site (to take turns with the old Roman Empire map), please send it to me, and I'll have that image change randomly each time someone visits the site. Finally, I'm going to the Universe as-is (open for discussion) until the Crisis of Integrity universe gets started in 2 weeks. -- Bob ====================================================================== PE-CH-Diplo [Sergeant]: Press Release Date:Sat, 17 Jan 2004 00:36:48 +0000 To reply, log in at http://www.powersedge.net/?Page=Login or use your newspaper form. I hate to vacillate so quickly, but I realized the importance of entering the game on the first turn, so I shall indeed be joining you all for another go at it. And just so it is known: I hold no affinities or grudges from one game to the next. Former enemies and allies alike, I first look to work with you.
