====================================================================== Power's Edge Announce: New Features Coming Soon (?) Date: Fri, 13 Aug 2004 04:02:14 +0000 Announcement from the Moderator to All Leaders: We've added some new features to the Development Zone, which are now ready to be applied to the main Power's Edge universes. The first one enables new actions: investing units to improve a region by increasing it's production, adding a new external link, or even adding a new internal link. The second one allows you to "reset" your map and have it redrawn from scratch at the next update. Because the "Region Improvement" actions can potentially have a big impact on how we play the game, everyone now has a chance to speak up (yea or nay); if a lot of players in a particular universe want the feature left off, it will be so. But we expect most everyone will be excited about the new strategic choices that will be possible, so unless we hear back from you (just reply to this message), the new features will be added 1 week from today. More information about the Region Improvement action will be made available in the Leader's Guide once the features are added. As we see how the features work out in real universes, we may fine-tune the "prices". More details follow: (1) Steven Bass has added some modules which allow regions to be improved: you can invest units to increase a region's production, add external links, and add internal links. The more units you invest, the more likely it is to get the outcome you want. Needless to say, this is going to revolutionize the whole game! (2) You can now instruct your cartographers to have your map redrawn from scratch for the next update. This is available from the same login that lets you send diplomatic messages and have your latest news reset. (I've been wrestling with the map generation code. It now does a better job of remembering previous maps and has settings which *should* (in the long term) do a better job of keeping regions from piling up on top of each other (if you have large maps). But for the next few turns things may be a bit messy yet.) -- Power's Edge, http://www.powersedge.net/ P.S. If you are no longer playing, please use the Resign button in your newspaper to resign. After your resignation goes through, you will no longer receive these messages.
