Power's Edge Announcement: Latest Updates

Announcement from the Moderator to All Leaders:

The good news is that I haven't seen any signs of the data-loss bugs
since the previous announcement.  And I was able to convince the ISP
that it was really unlikely to be a software problem on our side, so
they are looking into it.  However, because it's a wacky and
intermittent problem, it may be hard for them to confirm, isolate, and
eliminate it.  

Because I'm not convinced that we'll be able to solve the problem,
I've acted on a tip from one of our players (thanks Scott Stein!) and
begun investigating an alternative web hosting arrangement.  Based on
a quick perusal with a demo account, a migration looks like a really
good deal:  the new host is much less expensive (in fact, right now
they are offering a 3-year free trial: see www.1and1.com), and the new
host appears to provide equal or better services.

Therefore, I've initiated the registration of a new domain for them to
host (pe-dev.net, i.e. Power's Edge - Development), and have begun
installing and testing out a copy of the Power's Edge web site there
to ensure that there aren't any obscure obstacles.  As soon as I have
something running I'll launch one or two playtesting games and send
out an invitation.  After we see how that goes, I'll have enough
information to make a complete comparison between the old and new
hosting services, and then I'll make the decision whether to move all
of Power's Edge over to the new host.

In the meantime, we're back to the regular update schedule, so get
those moves in by the usual time on Saturday, and please keep me
notified if any bugs show up again!
(By the way, if you've had your inputs lost in the past, one
workaround that may help is to hit the submit button, get the
confirmation, then back up and re-submit a second time.  If two inputs
are identical then one of them will be ignored, so there's no risk of
irritating your bureaucracy.  This would also help to isolate whether
the problem is really random, or whether for some reason it really
likes to pick on certain players, and that might help us figure out
what's been going wrong.
