We hope, after all the warnings by the cyber guys, that you are not too surprised. -- The Real Capitalists (RL: I spent a lot of time considering the two main options available, was pretty sure this would be more fun, then got miffed that Ivan had the same notions and tried to warn David, and almost went with the "Kill Ivan first" approach after all... but finally decided this way would be more fun!) RL: Ever since we brought Ivan on board, I've been curious about whether a 3-person game was winnable. I decided that I was going to play for a win, and was most curious to find if there were two of us that could last through the dangerous period when the third player was down but not quite out. From the way we've been playing, my sense has always been that the only way to tempt one of you to that point would be for you to move into the endgame with a slight advantage, so that waiting would seem more advantageous than not waiting. I thought about whether ANewGrid92 would imbalance things too much, as both of you have suggested, but decided that I was "all in", so just went with it. My estimate was that we had another 10-20 turns before Bob was ready to strike. In looking at the stats, it looks to me like Bob is quite possibly in a position to win, so I guess I miscalculated on that, thinking that a coordinated strike would be slightly less damaging. I will admit that I was getting concerned about the level of coordination Bob was suggesting, since we are technically supposed to be at war with both of the other players. Early on it was interesting to see if there were ways for alliances to develop without explicitly discussing them. They did, and that was cool. When Bob started suggesting "softening" attacks and region transfers it seemed to me like things were maybe going a bit too far from the original intent. Now I see why Bob wasn't concerned: he still viewed them as attacks! lol. Ivan--I don't know if my defensive error was too big a hurdle to overcome, but I'm game if you are! (This is intended to protect the privacy of other players.) ====================================================================== Greetings - this is, again, the programmer. Hardware problems persist; however the Security Node is scheduled to come back online before the next newspapers come out! Unfortunately, things have evolved to much since the outage began to bring the same software online. My team is scheduled to bring a new version of the interactive interface online for testing in the Security Node. Other teams are working on OS upgrades, AI improvements, and even cooperative systems... Mr. sunshine, does I told you so seem out of place?!?! Move out of elderberries and those two connections; I will need a buffer zone. No real rush. Desert 92, and any deal is off! Unless that desertion is to take the Real Capitalist node that connects. I might be persuaded to follow that force... You MAY have watched to long before you were forced to see what was simple logic! Self preservation is, however, a survival instinct... The Programmer. [RL Wow... Bob first. Sorry to have "miffed" you; I considered the option and was somewhat unsure of those messages... However - and as I pointed out - you were using diplomacy to set Dave up, so I went with bringing it out - just in case... Combined, we are slightly more than your strength right now - this could be interesting! And indeed, fun!!! Now, Dave... Yes, I think a three person game is winnable - but only if circumstances (crisis, connection loss) or mistakes allow it. This is going to be close! :-) Those forces at 92 can't just abandon my defences, however - that would lead to Bob's victory! Consider them lost, and at least attack him with them!!! It would also be interesting to hear what he attacked with; extrapolation is a great tool! Now, I too was a little uncomfortable with the levels of suggestions by Bob... But, under our current circumstances and characterizations it was certainly within personas to have acted the way we all did! So, I was willing to let it go then, BUT - I'm not interested in getting into more than a simple arrangement now; no overt, planned, or approved alliances! This is still one against one against one... That all said - I'm game to make the attempt to salvage the Tournament! :-) Ivan ] WP-09-Diplo [UniNet]: Wizardry... But on the one hand, if I wanted to eliminate Ivan, that's what I needed to do to keep him from turning against me. And on the other hand, if I was going to try a betrayal, I needed his forces to be fighting with Ivan's so the borders would be relatively clear... My big regret is that Dave didn't launch his followup attacks on this past turn. I was hoping both your armies would've suffered another round of major attrition! That will probably be my undoing... but then we get to dance the dance for another 50-100 turns! And yes, I WAS a Wizardry fan, in days gone by! Although I played many games, back then... but no need for an Apple II now; I can't even get my kids to try my favorite OS 9 games. (They're 6 and 9, now... Dave's kids have to be in high school already?) The old interfaces are a bit too complex and the newer games are too well-drawn, sigh. It's tough to find current games which actually have some serious "game" in them, but we've found "just enough" new games we all like! And between the Web and the iTouch, you hardly even need to spend any money on games anymore... WP-09-Diplo [UniNet]: Didn't mean to suggest... (This is intended to protect the privacy of other players.) ====================================================================== Hey Bob... I didn't mean to suggest you went out of bounds; just a little questionable... :-) Under the circumstances, it was actually perfectly played, I think. Pushing the boundary of the rules in order to sell a diversion - if that was the actual plan rather than just the result, then kudos! I'm just glad David stayed his attack, at least I have a little left! Its up to you, Bob, to finish us now! But, if we manage to fight off the Capitalists, I might consider that this game is indeed one that will likely never end... I *might* consider calling it a draw?!?! Let's face it, even when we did the reorganization did anyone expect to still be playing the 2009 Tournament half way though 2011?!?!
