(This is intended to protect the privacy of other players.) ====================================================================== This is an open message to the Leaders of both Field of Flowers and Real Capitalist organizational bodies; The loss of UniGrid 4, while expected, was profoundly satisfying! It is humbling to see almost 1000 units over two turns required to eliminate my sacrificial sprites. While some of the second turn attacks used veterans of the first, the numbers can only be described as, again, satisfying! 966 units of Sunshine ultimately attacked 361 units, loosing at total of 421 (293 in the first wave, 128 in the second) to a loss of 317 (227 and 89) sprites. We may even let the Weeds hold the territory for some time before we finally move in and apply Round-Up to the area. Perhaps it is time to consider your former capital a lost cause??? Regardless, the recent leak of internal cables is being probed by the Security Node. Quick and decisive action by the Aggregators resulted in only a single cable being released to the public. Luckily this released cable did not have details in advanced planning! On this turn the Weeds showed 505 units, 43 percent of their total force. They lost 220 in the fighting. The Capitalists showed, statistically, nothing to us - a single unit which was destroyed. We showed 564 units, 34 percent of our total and lost 188 - another very good result. Fighting between the Caps and Weeds showed other numbers we can only guess at, and numerically only the Caps made actual gains from one turn to the next. We are down 100 units and 1 production, Weeds down 177 and remain even, Caps are up 16 and 4. Mr. Franklin, regarding patterns noticed by the Weeds, it is our belief that the intention was to assist you in thought pattern changes to simply leave him alone while he focuses on regaining his lost territory. A great number of his forces were tied up in that endeavour, and his roots were therefore exposed - an exposure exploited by my sprites this past turn! You are left with choices. Follow the Weeds directions like a puppet, attack the root systems before their acidity begins to cause major deterioration to your infrastructure, or continue with your two pronged offensive and hope we beat each other to the point of you being able to re-balance your books. Each choice has a plus and minus column, and only you can do the accounting and determine a course of action. UniGrid 72 is yours, when you are able to take it. The accounting may not be in your favor to take it quickly, however - a quick takeover will show a large number of your forces! Beware external possibilities might allow the Weeds to attack there as well.... Weeds, in direct speech for your understanding.... U cn't hope t hold Uni-4 long times. Leaf b4 more plants are loosed. 1 outlet, go thr now, r soon. Hav got Agnt-Orng from Cap factory take ovr, do nt wish to use. I lik flowrs. Mowr forces comng, litl optns remain. K thks bai. UniNet 1.3.0 (beta, fc) Dave, I agree, this was an ouch for you! I never expected things to go so well for me! It was nice to have read your message before I looked at the turn last night - and cool to note that all three of us seem to sit and wait for the turns to come out on Sat. nights! Hey, you guys watched the tv series Reboot? One of my original intentions in this game was to move toward that for diplomatic messages, but at this point it won't make as much sense (for me) unless you guys already understand the inferences.... It'll be easy to characterize Bob as MegaByte and Dave as Hexadecimal, with me as Bob the Guardian or Enzo or Dot or Phong.... While I'd like to make you guys Hack and Slash, that just wouldn't make sense! [smilie] Anyway, if you both do I'll reboot to Mainframe in the near future! WP-09-Diplo [Sunshine]: ??? I thought that was interesting. so, watchit, buster. killing gardeners is one thing. glyphosphate on teh plants an ull b opening a can of woopass, u bad machine! hugz, sunshine! Ivan-- yeah, I thought a lot about how to do that invasion. I had the 700 plus units that could combine, and I was pretty sure that you weren't going to have more than that, but one group would have had to go the long way around. I decided to try doing what I did: hit you from two sides and expect that, even if I lost more units than you, I would weaken you enough that eventually one of them would make it in. I don't know the equation for the battles, but it seems that it's bad news to attack a defender either with too few or too many units, so I knew this would be taking a chance (because I imagined it would be too few), but thought it would be worth it. Turns out I was wrong! Guess I'll know for next time. Either way, it was a pretty epic battle, and even though I cam out way on the losing end, it was a pretty exciting one to be part of! Game on, buddy. ;-) WP-09-Diplo [UniNet]: Round up.... Date:Sun, 12 Dec 2010 20:53:47 +0000 To reply, log in at http://www.websofpower.com/?Page=Login or use your newspaper form. Direct email replies do not go to the sender. (This is intended to protect the privacy of other players.) ====================================================================== This is an open message to the Leader of Field of Flowers; Ms. Weed commander, please read our communications more closely. We are sure you will see that we would not enjoy the Round Up of your former capital - it is a threat of last resort. We simply, humbly, suggest that you leave the area and use those forces to protect your current capital rather than determine such a useless waste of plant materials is in your best interests. Indeed, you should be aware I have always stated that I do in fact like flowers, despite your feelings toward electronic systems. You may even recall that at one point there was the creation of a virtual reality garden so that my sprites could see the beauty of your culture rather than just the obvious fact that your war-like natural tendencies undermines the beauty of your flowers. You should have noted we only suggested Round Up for your former capital rather the the more devastating Agent Orange, only one of the Rainbow Herbicides developed by Capitalistic cultures. While we understand you may not see the difference, all plant life being sacred to you, we suggest that Round Up will be used only to eliminate weeds in this once beautiful territory, while further use of chemical herbicides and defoliants would be much less discriminate in action. Please use more logic than emotional disambiguation. Of course we are not interested in being best enemies forever. We have done everything possible to protect plant life in our territories and will continue to do so - unless unwarranted actions continue. Always remember, when texting you are using a computer system - be careful it doesn't byte.... Now, regarding patterns, you forget one - the original piece of that pattern. When you and he beat my predecessor to a pulp. But yes, this is the pattern to which I referred. Admittedly, my characterization was somewhat self serving. And indeed, I rose up from the ashes of that original experiment! Alan Turing?!?! Used as an insult? I would not have thought plants were homophobic in nature - indeed many plants carry both male and female parts. Perhaps the lack of sunlight has effected you more than you care to admit. Lucky for you the Solstice approaches and the days will again grow longer. We look forward to the apple and cherry blossoms, the days when the flowers are simply wonderful to look at and smell, and the times when we are no longer afraid to turn our backs ala The Little Shop of Horrors, but feeding on silicon rather than human blood.... Dave - I could have doubled my numbers, but it would have left a major flank undefended. Pulling in others was going to take to much time. I was expecting the two pronged attack, which is why I was attempting to cut off the avenues to partridge pea - early warning system! Didn't see that second group coming as soon as it did though! I mentioned in my first message those armies were sacrificial - they were there to defend and hopefully kill more than they (and they did) purely as a numbers game. I figured that I had the most armies and could afford to sacrifice a few. Turns out I got lucky (this time) - but I'm not sure the battle is over yet! I think the epic-ness may yet rise; and yup, so far it's been damn exciting to be part of! (I knew I was going after partridge pea when I first encountered it - and was a little miffed when Bob took it before I did! But, I guess you took his capital earlier, right?!?!) Watch out for your flanks though, staying is a numbers game I have the advantage at the moment, at least until the pattern makes me the whipping bay again.... (I expected that to happen by now, actually!) Didn't watch Reboot then?!?! To bad, I was going to have fun with the change on that one.... Life in Mainframe, blah, blah, game cube, tap tap REBOOT.... Worth a watch sometime if you get the chance - it's kind of a personification of computer internals with semi cartoony characters (CGI stuff, was VERY good when it was made) that has developed a cult following sorta like the original Star Trek and/or Firefly.... Looking forward to Bob getting back and then some time to weigh in on all of this action! :-) WP-09-Diplo [Ben Franklin]: Quiet Times... It's nice to read about these huge, distant battles ... and not be a part of them! Sunshine, we are sad that your bachelors got lonely, but we will at least be using the fallen leaves for composting, and will attempt to use the output to fertilize some fresh lands for you down the road. Computer Man, we're sorry you no longer want to own 800-Flowers. We'll be happy to take it off your hands, and will look forward to an opportunity to return the favor later... (We have to admit, it took us a long time to figure out what you meant, since you referred to it as Grid-72 or something... It's unfortunate that we can't all simply agree to let the names stay the way they are. Seems to me that creates needless aggravation (and unproductive expenses!). On the other hand, maybe the flower-folk aren't so fond of names that imply the cutting and distribution of flowers to make people's homes beautiful for a few days? We'll have to green-tech the new place when we move back in, focus on selling potted plants and seeds... and I guess that means a new name. So maybe renaming isn't all bad, if the new names are better? As long as they aren't those boring, hard-to-remember serial-number things. Even computers aren't all serial numbers... One more thought - we still own the Monsanto factories, and since the workers took over from the banksters, we've discontinued production of RoundUp in favor of biome-based approaches to weed control. Better to harvest and compost, and hire a suitable spectrum of predators for unwanted species, than to poison the land with toxic chemicals... Also, we added an organic roof to the building, so the land is still growing food even with the factory underneath. Maybe in the future, people could move partly-underground, and let the surface live free again, instead of paving the world over? Thanks to Computer-Man's cybertech, we'll all be able to communicate as much as we like, without having to travel so much to get together, so there won't need to be so many roads and buildings and things. Now there's a positive thought for the holidays! P.S. No TV here, and no time to watch series of shows anymore... maybe after the kids grow up? Yeah, we don't have TV here either, but that's all about to change. We're going from a no-cable, no TV watching family (I'll sometimes catch a Pats game, but other than that we generally just watch occasional movies) to an HBO-subscribed family with a 46-inch, HDTV just after Christmas. All because of HBOs new Game of Thrones series. We totally love the books, and the series looks like they're going to do a great job. Oh well, bye-bye free time! -- Dave
